Mombasa
The coast north of Mombasa is a world of captivating history and natural beauty, lined with pristine, palm-fringed beaches and the calm, inviting waters of the Indian Ocean. The beaches are interrupted by the wide estuary of Kilifi Creek, whose azure waters make it a popular port of call for the international yachting circuit.
The beaches of Nyali, Vipingo, Kikambala and Shanzu are home to a wide range of world-class resorts with fine cuisine and excellent services. The peaceful beaches of Mtwapa and Takaungu offer a perfect retreat from the outside world. Further north are Kilifi, Watamu and Malindi.
The offshore reefs are teeming with a variety of fish, sea turtles and dolphins. Both the outer and inner reef walls offer world-class diving sites with spectacular coral gardens.
The old town of Mombasa is a multicultural place that was shaped in the past by seafarers from India, Europe, Arabia and even China. The narrow streets of the old town are steeped in history. A visit to the old town of Mombasa is like a journey through time.
Mombasa Tusks: are a well-known landmark in Mombasa. Built in 1952, the tusk archway was constructed for Queen Elizabeth's visit and symbolizes the entrance to the city of Mombasa. The large tusks form an "M", which stands for the first letter of the port city.
