Lake Naivasha is a popular stopover for one or two nights on safaris to the Rift Valley or the Masai Mara.
Lake Naivasha is the largest freshwater lake in the Kenyan part of the East African Rift Valley. It is only around two hours away from Nairobi and is therefore also suitable as an excursion destination for those who are staying in Nairobi for a while on business, for example. Lake Naivasha is famous for its variety of water birds. These can be observed on boat trips, as can the lake's numerous hippos. A popular boat tour also leads to Crescent Island, a peninsula with a private animal reserve where giraffes, zebras and many other hoofed animals can be observed. The shores of the lake are dotted with larger settlements, such as the medium-sized town of Naivasha, and large greenhouses where cut flowers are grown for export to Europe. Nevertheless, there are also private game reserves such as Oserengoni, which form important corridors that allow animals to travel from the vastness of the Rift Valley to water at Lake Naivasha during the dry seasons.
