Today you start your safari!
Heading north, you cross the equator through beautiful landscapes into the land of the Samburu people. You will arrive here in time for lunch and go on a game drive in the afternoon.
Spend two days with morning and afternoon game drives along the river and wild vegetation in search of the big five!
The Samburu National Park's great and special wealth of wildlife is inspiring.
The Samburu are a Nilotic-Hamitic nomadic people comprising around 75,000 people. They migrated from the north to what is now Kenya in the 16th century. Like the Masai, they speak a Maa language. Their traditions are also very similar to those of the Masai.
The Samburu live off their herds of cattle and have largely resisted change to this day. As semi-nomads, they live in small settlements with 4 to 10 cattle owners together in low, windowless huts made of a mesh of poles covered with mud, animal skins and sometimes grass mats. The Samburu use dromedaries as pack animals.
The basis of their society is the principle of male eldership. Women have little influence on society. The elders have the power, which means that with increasing age, the Samburu men approach the important age groups. Of course, with increasing rank comes greater responsibility.
The typical food of the Samburu is that of all nomadic peoples in East Africa: milk mixed with blood, called saroi. Sheep, goats and cattle are slaughtered at festivals and special occasions. These occasions can be the birth of a child, circumcision, marriage or promotion to a higher age group.
The Samburu are usually clad in rust-red cloaks or cloaks with lots of red. The men are armed with spears, knives and arrows. Their hair and shoulders are braided into small plaits and painted ochre. The women often wear necklaces weighing up to 10 kg around their necks. Their heads are also decorated with beaded necklaces and ribbons as well as a cross-shaped forehead ornament.

MORE INFO...In the morning, the journey continues towards Lake Elementaita.
The lake's special name is derived from the Maasai word muteita, which means "dust place". It is dusty in the dry region north of Nakuru, especially between January and March. Nevertheless, Lake Soda with its very high salt content is a paradise for water birds, of which over 400 species have been recorded. The lake is often populated by huge flocks of flamingos. Lake Elementaita is part of the gigantic Rift Valley, at the bottom of which there are several lakes. The East African Rift Valley was formed by the eastward drift of the East African subcontinent, which created a huge lunar landscape with volcanoes and rugged escarpments.
Enjoy the views of the lake.
Overnight stay at Lake Elementaita Lodge.
Lake Elementaita is a small, highly alkaline lake that attracts many flamingos.
MORE INFO...After a hearty breakfast, the safari takes you to the Masai Mara National Park. You will stay here for 2 nights.
The greatest natural spectacle in the world!
The "Great Migration" in the East African Masai Mara is without doubt a very special safari experience! Up to 1.5 million wildebeest, 400,000 zebras and Thomson's gazelles migrate every year in search of fresh food and water from the vastness of the Tanzanian Serengeti towards the Kenyan Masai Mara. Heavy rains in the region in March and April cause the herds to head northwest, where the mating season begins. In May, they enter the western corridor of the Serengeti and finally reach the Grumeti River. At the beginning of the dry season, in the months of June to September, the animals move on towards the Kenyan Masai Mara and have to cross the dangerous rivers. They often fall victim to the numerous predators that wait for this easy prey every year.
Dramatic scenes often take place when crossing the river, as the herds, already exhausted from the migration, are easy prey not only for the predators, but also for the crocodiles lurking in the rivers. Sometimes the animals are already so weak and exhausted that they can no longer climb the steep banks. This, often dramatic, spectacle is the most famous part of the migration and attracts numerous visitors from all over the world every year!
