Val du Charron Wine & Olive Estate and Guesthouse is situated on a farm in the heart of the Bovlei Valley, ten minutes from the city of Wellington and an hour's drive from Cape Town. Val du Charron (Valley of the Charron) is the original name of Wellington. It was so named towards the end of the 17th century when the area was settled by the French Huguenots, who brought with them the art of wine growing and wagon making. De Groenenbergh farm (now Val du Charron) was founded in 1699 and granted to Mr. Pieter Erasmus from the Netherlands, the right to farm this property with his four sons. Val du Charron is a modern place with an old wine tradition and a fascinating history. The farm is 42 hectares in size and consists of 21 hectares of vines, 4 ½ hectares of olives and a 300-ton wine cellar. The cellar produces handcrafted premium red and white wines for export. Val du Charron combines the rich traditions and natural beauty of the area with modern comfort and technology to not only produce excellent wines, but also to be an experience for our guests. The guest house consists of nine luxurious suites with magnificent views of the vineyards/garden and the Hawekwa Mountains. The 4-star accommodation consists of two large family rooms, 3 double rooms and 4 twin rooms, each with breakfast with the option of dinner. Guests can enjoy a full farmhouse breakfast served in the dining room, which includes the wine / olive tasting facility and allows guests access to the working cellar throughout the day. For a holistic view of the winemaking process or simply to enjoy the tranquility of the farm, a number of walking and cycling tours are offered around the farm, covering aspects such as the different varieties of vines, the beehives necessary for vine dusting and the dams that supply the farm with water. Guests can also use the dams for fishing. The stunning glass fronted tasting room is the ideal party venue for up to 100 guests for weddings, birthdays, end of year and any other celebration. Conference facilities are available for small groups of up to 30 people. During the hot summer months in Wellington, a swimming pool is available for your use. During the winter months, large fireplaces with sofas invite you to play board games or browse from the extensive library - while sipping a glass of Val du Charron's premium wine, of course.
