Maji Moto Eco Camp is situated on a hill in Masai country overlooking the savannah plains. The eco-friendly camp is a retreat for nature-loving visitors with a genuine interest in the local Masai way of life. The simple camp is run by the Masai from the nearby village of Maji Moto. During your stay you will experience the intense natural beauty of the Loita Hills and learn about the ancient culture, knowledge and thinking of the Masai.
The focus here is on interaction with the local population.
Maji Moto, located in the Loita Hills in southwestern Kenya, is a 3-hour drive from Nairobi and is on the way to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve.
The drive from Nairobi includes the breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment. For travelers intending to visit the Masai Mara, Maji Moto is a perfect place to rest and acclimatize to the region, it is only an hour away from Sekenani Gate.
YOUR HOST AND GUIDE
Sankale Ole Ntutu is your chief here at Maji Moto Eco Camp. He is a Masai tribesman from the Purko clan. Born in Maji Moto, his grandmother instilled in him a passion for knowledge of the natural world, plants and animals. The Masai people are quick to share their world with you and visits to their facilities, school or village are as easy as tracking. Listen to Sankale as he guides you through his homeland.
The igloo-type tents are simple, with mattresses on the floor, pillows, bed linen and towels. All tents are quiet with a small terrace and perfect views of the savannah. Bathrooms and showers are very clean but shared facilities.
The camp does not have a generator. Candles, lanterns and campfires are used for light in the evening. Only dried wood and "green charcoal briquettes" are used for the campfire. Small solar cells provide electricity for charging cameras and cell phones.
