Secluded and spacious, our 77 guest rooms, suites and villas keep you in constant touch with the Serengeti. Contemporary African décor with four-poster beds with mosquito nets and local textiles and artwork - all with modern comforts such as air-conditioning and high-speed internet access. Step out onto your elevated, open sundeck with direct views of the plains and enjoy a private audience with any lions or elephants that might pass by.
When you start planning your Serengeti adventure, you'll soon learn about the 'Big Five'. These are the five most popular animals to look for on your African safari: Lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino.
"Big" has nothing to do with size. The term originally comes from big game hunters who considered them to be the most challenging large animals to shoot and kill. But in the Serengeti National Park, they only shoot with a camera!
Nevertheless, the Big Five retain their appeal. When you are out on game drives, your safari guide will help you check your sightings of these coveted animals. You will probably spot some of them right at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge. You may stop by for a drink at our two waterholes or take a stroll while relaxing on the private sundeck of your guest room.
Find out more about the Big Five here:
1. lions are remarkably easy to spot. The Serengeti is said to be home to Africa's largest lion population - with more than 3,000 lions in the park.
2. leopards are more challenging as they are difficult to see on the ground due to their camouflage pattern. You are more likely to find a leopard resting in a tall tree.
3. buffalo live in very healthy numbers in the Serengeti. You could witness a herd of 1,000 or more.
4 African elephants travel in herds of 2 to 24 animals. They are frequent visitors to our waterholes.
5 The rhino can be the most challenging animal in the Serengeti. But with an experienced safari guide, you might be in luck!
Why not create your own personal Big Five checklist? After all, there are over 70 species of mammal in the Serengeti, including zebra, wildebeest, cheetah, gazelle, hyena, impala, baboon and giraffe. For birdwatchers, the Serengeti is a dream destination with around 500 bird species, including ostrich, secretary, bird, turtle dove and vulture.
The Four Seasons team will do their best to help you track down your favorite animals and make all your Serengeti dreams come true.
