Xugana Lagoon is widely recognized as the most spectacular permanent waterhole in the entire Okavango Delta. Xugana Island Lodge is situated on a wooded island adjacent to the lagoon, taking advantage of its great location. The thatched communal area with cocktail bar, lounge and curio store is still the original building, built in 1974 when Xugana was the second tourist lodge to be established in the Okavango Delta. Mokoro tours in eco-friendly dugout canoes of traditional design, boat safaris to lagoons and islands, as well as wilderness walks create an opportunity to see the Delta inhabitants such as sitatunga and lechwe antelope, crocodiles and hippos as well as other large wild animals that traverse the islands and river fringes. Bird watching opportunities are excellent and at certain times of the year, bream and tiger tetra fishing can be an excellent venture. A peaceful boat cruise across the Xugana Lagoon during the spectacular African sunset makes for a lifetime of memories. All activities are guided by experienced naturalists who are keen to share their knowledge and love of this unique area with you, while also ensuring that no harm comes to anyone.
