After your arrival at the international airport or pick-up at your pre-booked hotel in Windhoek, you will travel the short distance to Okahandja and the Otjihavera mountain outcrops. Here we have the first opportunity to take part in an optional nature tour followed by a sundowner. In addition to a rich and beautiful bird life, there are 11 different animal species on the farm, including eland, giraffe, kudu, springbok and gemsbok. As the wild animals are used to vehicles and are not hunted here, we have wonderful opportunities to admire the animals and take photos of them. For dinner, we sit on the large terrace and can observe the antelopes living here at an illuminated waterhole. (Dinner not included)

Our journey today takes us north to the border of Etosha National Park, where we will experience unforgettable game viewing over the next few days. With an area of over 22,000 square kilometers, it is not only one of Africa's largest national parks, but also one of the most species-rich nature reserves in the world. The huge Etosha salt pan, from which the park gets its name, shimmers with phatamorphs and never ceases to fascinate with its endless expanse. If time permits, we can take part in an optional game drive in the afternoon. We stop again and again at the various waterholes along the pan to wait for the different animal species. We leave the park shortly before sunset and drive back to the lodge, where we have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 3:

We have the whole day in Etosha National Park at our disposal for game drives. We enjoy the unique experience of observing the diverse wildlife in the wild during the game drives. Many game species typical of the savannah plains of Africa are found here in large numbers, including zebra, elephant, giraffe, blue wildebeest, oryx, springbok, kudu and the unique black-nosed impala. Hundreds of bird species have been documented here, supplemented by migratory birds in the summer months. If you are lucky, you may also spot lions, leopards and cheetahs and see hyenas and jackals roaming the area in the early morning or late evening. In the late afternoon we reach our camp, which is located on the eastern side of the national park.

Day 4:

A visit to Etosha National Park is one of the highlights of any trip to Namibia. Etosha was declared a game reserve by the German South West African administration as early as 1907. In the center is an extensive salt pan surrounded by grass and thorn savannahs, mopane scrubland in the west and dry forest in the northeast. Especially in the southern part of the park, however, there are numerous scattered waterholes, the basis of life for the game population in Etosha National Park. Almost the entire range of African big game is represented in the park. The national park is well developed and gravel roads lead to the various waterholes where the animals can best be observed.

After breakfast, the journey continues to the former Ovamboland. Ovambo is a collective term for a large number of ethnic groups living in north-central Namibia and southern Angola. These groups once migrated from the Great Lakes in East Africa and settled in the region between the Kunene and Kavango rivers. The Owambo are the largest language group in the country and make up almost 51% of Namibia's population. Most Owambo still live today as subsistence farmers and live from working the fields and keeping cattle and goats. A little further on, we visit a traditional Ovambo village to learn more about the culture and traditions of this population. Our lodge is located in the lively town of Ondangwa, where there is also an open market and many "Cuca stores" (local gifts) with fancy names. We can visit these in the afternoon or simply relax by the large pool.

Day 6:

After breakfast, we drive on to Kaokoland and its striking village of Opuwo. Those who come to Opuwo find themselves back in the heart of Africa. Herero women in their Victorian dresses stroll along the dust-dry dirt road, you meet Himbas in their traditional dresses and every now and then cows, pigs or goats cross the road. Welcome to the end of the world. That is the translation of "Opuwo"! Our lodge is located just outside the village on a hill with a stunning view of Kaokoland.

Day 7:

Today we visit a traditional Himba village and gain an authentic insight into this natural culture. It is hard to believe that these proud people still live as they did hundreds of years ago. They hold on to their beliefs and traditions. Kaokoland belongs to its inhabitants and respect for their way of life and traditions is appropriate. The "kraal" usually consists of huts made from mopane branches, clay and cow dung. For the Himba, their herds of cattle mean life. There is no personal ownership of livestock as we know it. Cattle have a firm place in ceremonies and rituals, brides are paid with cattle, the death of a chief requires the sacrifice of the best animals (the skulls are erected on sticks around the grave) and crimes are punished with the giving away of cattle. The Himba's main diet consists of soured milk and meat. Grain, sugar and items for their jewelry are obtained through cattle trade. The basis of the religion is a distant being - Mukuru. The souls of the deceased are believed to have supernatural powers, which also have an influence on the living and are seen as a medium to Mukuru. Good relationships with the ancestors are therefore necessary. The sacred fire (Okuruwo), a single smouldering log, is guarded by the chief and lit as a fire during important rituals as a symbol of contact between the living and the deceased. We have the afternoon at leisure and can relax by the lodge's swimming pool.

Our destination today is Damaraland, which is still almost untouched in parts and has a beautiful landscape. On the way to our accommodation, which is located on the banks of one of the many dry rivers, we visit specimens of the Welwitschia mirabilis plant that grows in this area. This plant species has some peculiarities that have long since become extinct in all other plant species in the world. We are standing in front of a living fossil! We also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site - Twyfelfontein, the largest "open-air museum" in southern Africa. Twyfelfontein, named after its "dubious source", was inhabited thousands of years ago. Herds of game have roamed this area since time immemorial and served as food for the hunters of the time, who included Bushmen. The prehistoric rock art galleries of Twyfelfontein are a veritable treasure trove of rock engravings. On a huge granite mountain there is a Living Museum of the Damara, which we also visit. The Damara, together with the Bushmen, have lived in Namibia for thousands of years and are therefore among the true indigenous peoples of southern Africa. During our visit to the village, we learn all about their traditions and culture and how they survive in this arid region using simple but ingenious means. Our tent accommodation is located on a granite mountain and also directly on the Aba-Huab River, where, with a bit of luck, we may see the legendary desert elephants.

Today we drive into the Erongo mountain region. Shortly before and in the small mining town of Uis, where tin was still mined until the 1990s, we have the opportunity to visit the street markets where the Damara sell a huge collection of different minerals. These include rock crystals, various types of quartz, tiger's eyes and amethysts. Afterwards, we visit an idyllically situated Living Museum of the San in the Erongo mountain range to gain impressions and information about their impressive culture and history.

Day 10:

Today we travel on to the Atlantic Ocean, where we stay in the idyllic town of Swakopmund. Our hotel is located right in the center of Swakopmund, allowing us to reach many of Swakopmund's restaurants, stores and attractions on foot. With its beach promenades, palm-lined avenues, street cafés and old German colonial buildings, Swakopmund is Namibia's most popular vacation resort and also offers a range of different optional activities, which we can also enjoy the next day.

Day 11:

Today we have a variety of different activities available (not included) that focus either in the dunes of the Namib Desert, in the air or on the Atlantic Ocean. Just some of these activities consist of flying safaris, boat and catamaran trips, desert tours and quad bike rides or guided bicycle tours. In the evening we enjoy our dinner in one of the many cozy restaurants that offer us a range of fresh seafood (dinner not included)

Day 12:

After breakfast, we drive across the vast expanses of the southern Namib Desert to the vicinity of the Sossusvlei, where some of the highest dunes in the world rise out of the sea of sand. We visit this spectacular natural spectacle early the next morning before sunrise. At our lodge, we have the opportunity to relax by the swimming pool after our arrival, take a nature tour through the beautiful surroundings or relax in our room (activities not included).

Day 13:

Today we drive to Sossusvlei before sunrise to admire some of the highest dunes in the world in a special light show. As soon as the first rays of sunlight fall on the majestic dunes, the billowing sea of sand around us changes into a symphony of different colors that will leave nature lovers and photographers breathless. We drive to Sossusvlei by four-wheel drive vehicle. Here we have the opportunity to climb some of the dunes and visit other highlights such as the surreal Dead Vlei. On the way back to our lodge we also visit the Sesriem Canyon, which has been carved into a 30 meter deep gorge over 18 million years by the Tsauchab River, the same dry river that sinks into the ground at Sossusvlei. We then drive back to our lodge, where we have the rest of the day at leisure.
