In the largest mountain rainforest in Africa, the large One&Only Nyungwe House is located in a paradise for primates. This mountain accommodation has been designed to blend harmoniously into its natural surroundings. Nyungwe Forest is located in Gisakura on the edge of Nyungwe National Park, a tea plantation, and is the largest mountain rainforest in Africa. It is home to over 13 different primate species, accounting for 20% of all monkeys in Africa.
Accommodation
A total of 22 luxury rooms located in six wooden villas. In addition to this room type, the guesthouse offers two exclusive and spacious presidential suites, which are located in separate villas. Guests can take a refreshing dip in the lodge's heated swimming pool, which overlooks the rainforest. Surrounded by the unique sights and sounds of the Nyungwe Forest, the pool boma provides an ideal spot for sundowners. Rejuvenating spa and beauty treatments are offered at the Relax Retreat, which is equipped with two treatment rooms and a Jacuzzi. Equipped with a treadmill, bicycles and weights, the fitness room invites you to enjoy a challenging workout.
Enjoying sundowners in the outdoor boma makes for an unforgettable outdoor experience. The boma is a dining area fenced with wood and furnished with tables and chairs around an open fireplace. The restaurant offers the private terrace, the tea lounge as well as the bar. Delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served at various locations in and around the lodge.
The activities offered during a stay at this mountain rainforest retreat revolve around outdoor activities and trekking in the national park. These informative treks are tailored to individual needs, with guided walks lasting between 1 and 7 hours. The most popular treks include chimpanzee trekking, gray-cheeked mangabey trekking and white and black colobus monkey trekking. Cultural walks and bird watching tours are also available.
From the lodge, guests can take a beautiful 5.3 km walk to Izumo Waterfall, which is approximately 2 hours away. Travelers have the opportunity to visit the tea factory and learn about the process of withering, cutting, tearing and curling, fermentation, drying, sorting, storage and packaging.
Nyungwe Forest National Park is located in the south-western region of Rwanda. Located south of Lake Kivu on the border with Burundi, this national park was established in 2004 and covers around 970 square kilometers of natural bamboo, rainforest, grassland and swamps. Nyungwe Forest National Park forms one of the oldest forests on the African continent and is one of the few remaining habitats of the rainforest mountains.
Despite its remoteness, access to this magnificent rainforest lodge is convenient. Flights to Rwanda are available from major African and European cities such as Nairobi, Entebbe, Brussels and Paris. Airlines flying to Rwanda are SN Brussels, Alliance Express/Alliance Air, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Air Tanzania. International flights land at Kanombe Airport, which is 10 kilometers from the center of Kigali.
